Take Off

Take Off, released on 4 September 2026, is the first single from Ambiguous, the five track EP Umbilicus put out on 20 November 2026 through Listenable Insanity Records. It is an up-tempo rocker with soaring vocals and a rhythm section that moves like freight, and the only surprising thing about it is who is playing. Umbilicus is Paul Mazurkiewicz of Cannibal Corpse on drums, Taylor Nordberg of Deicide on guitar, Vernon Blake of Anarchus on bass and the Canadian singer Brian Stephenson, and the record they are making has nothing to do with any of that. This is 1970s hard rock played without irony, closer to Grand Funk Railroad than to a blast beat. The band is also older than it looks. Mazurkiewicz and Blake started the idea around 2000 with then Cannibal Corpse guitarist Jack Owen, wrote about fifteen songs, played two shows in a small Tampa bar and shelved everything for twenty years because they could not find a singer. Nordberg recorded, mixed and mastered Ambiguous with Jeramie Kling at Smoke and Mirrors Productions in Spring Hill, Florida. Discovered via Brian Heason (HBM Promotions / Music Plugger).
