Avalanche
Avalanche is the title track and lead cut from the four song EP Mr Shiraz released in January 2026, and the launch tells you as much about the band as the record does. It happened at Amped in Huddersfield on 24 January, alongside a beer brewed for the occasion with Liquid Light Brewing Company of Nottingham, with Daves from Leeds and Split Lips from Huddersfield opening. That kind of gig is home turf, because singer Mikey Shiraz books The Parish, the 280 capacity Huddersfield venue that turned twenty in 2026 and that Kerrang once wrote about as a room the local rock community refused to let close. The song itself is melodic punk rock with the hard rock weight the band picked up on Glorious, their fourth album, released on 1 July 2022 through Bad Granola Records with thirteen tracks produced by Andy Hawkins. Worth remembering that none of this was the original plan. Mr Shiraz started as an eight piece ska band more than twenty years ago, then binned every song in the set after a drummer left through illness, and rebuilt from zero. The single that came out of that reset, No Prophecy, ran 97 seconds and won Best Single at the Pure Rawk Awards. Discovered via Brian Heason (HBM Promotions / Music Plugger).
